Hey guys im new to the forums and i was just thinking about how i could start working on my 1986 Firebird, it has a 2.8 liter V6 engine, as far as i know mostly all stock

i dont know where to start so any advice would be great thanks

depends, do you want to stay with the 2.8?, how fast do want to go?, how much are you willing to spend?. if you do want to swap motors keep in mind it is easier to do with some then  others, especially if want to go reeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaally fast.

oh i dont know something realistic, what would a cheap V8 cost thats is not much of a problem to work with, im thinking quarter mile car.... nothing like 10 seconds but i think i could with with around 5k...

look up edelbrock crate engines.If that is to pricey then you may want to buy a rebuilt engine from autozone or what ever parts store you have there.
you cant go wrong with a 400 small block.here is what you need.
1 400 Pontiac engine                                         Price  $1800
2 Holley 770 Carb                                             Price  $450
3 Holley intake manifold                                    Price  $230
4 mallory distributor                                         Price   $270
5 (optional) chrome Holley valve covers             Price   $80
6 A good mechanic/friend
Prices are estimates from when I did my car.

You will need other things such as a water pump and other things you will find along the way.You may need to put in a better radiator.
